Packing Tips For A Girls Weekend Getaway

*This post is written by Zoe Dobson of Awearness.

Are you planning a fun weekend getaway with some of your girlfriends? A girls’ weekend is a great time to relax, de-stress, and have fun. However, you don’t want to put a damper on your fun by realizing you forgot to pack something once it is too late.

You definitely don’t want to under pack and have to borrow a shirt from one of your friends because you ran out. But, on the other hand, you don’t want to overpack and need to haul three bags up to your hotel room. Below, we’ve provided a kick start to your packing list that will help you ensure you’ve got all the essentials before heading out the door.

Clothing

You’ll need to think about how many days you’ll be away and be sure to pack enough of each of the following items to last. It doesn’t hurt to throw in an extra outfit, but don’t go crazy and pack your whole closet.

Packing Tips For A Girls Weekend Getaway

Going Out Clothes

You’ll want to pack a few nicer outfits for when you and the girls go out to dinner. Think about what you are planning to do and choose your outfits accordingly. If you are going to see a play, you’ll need different clothes than if you are planning to go to a karaoke bar. If you’re somewhat unsure of the full activities list for the weekend, pack a few mix and match items that can be dressed up or down depending on what you end up doing. This could be a simple little black dress or a great pair of versatile jeans.

Comfy Clothing

Nowadays, athletic clothing has become most peoples’ go to for comfy clothing as well. So, if you intend to workout while on vacation, this will help you save space when packing. If you have walking around in Yoga pants then consider that pair of versatile jeans your dressed down look by pairing them with a pair of sneakers and a t-shirt.

Undergarments

This one seems obvious but it’s one of the most common things to leave behind. Be sure to pack a few extra pairs of underwear, socks and all of the bras you may need for your different outfits.

Another forgotten item in this category are pajamas. At home, many of us may walk around in our birthday suits but when you’re on vacation and likely sharing a room with one of your girlfriends, you may want to bring a little something to wear when walking around your hotel room or running to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Weather appropriate attire

Your destination will greatly dictate your attire. If you’re going somewhere warm for example, then you should definitely pick a few swimsuits to bring along for your poolside or beach activities. On the other hand, if you’re renting a chalet for a ski vacation then make sure you’ve got all of your warmest sweaters and ski gear packed and ready to go.

Shoes

Don’t forget to pack a few different pairs of shoes too. You’ll need nice shoes or boots to wear when you go out. You’ll likely want a pair of tennis shoes for when you are lounging around or going for a run.

Don’t forget to also pack a pair of flip-flops or slip on shoes for walking around in the hotel room. Whatever you do, don’t pick a pair of shoes for every outfit – try to narrow it down to one pair of each style that goes with everything. This is especially true for heels as they can take up a lot of space in your suitcase.

Jewelry

Pack a few key jewelry pieces that you’ll wear for the majority of your trip but try and avoid bringing your most valuable pieces, unless they stay on you at all times. Costume jewelry is a great option in this situation as it allows you to have a little fun with your look while not taking the risk of losing anything of sentimental value.

Other Accessories

You’re definitely going to want to accessorize and look your best when you’re going out with your girls, so don’t forget to pack some of your favorite accessories. Toss a nice scarf and a pair of sunglasses in your bag to help you look stylish while you’re out.

Don’t forget to pack a small purse or a clutch so you don’t have to carry your larger purse out in the evenings. Depending on the weather, you might also want to pack more dressy jacket or coat to wear at night. If you’ll be heading to the beach, you might also want to pack a small beach tote and a beach towel (if the hotel doesn’t provide them).

Makeup

If you’re someone that wear makeup then forgetting an essential behind can put a big dent in your trip. Not feeling like yourself while on vacation is a terrible feeling and one you can avoid if you plan ahead.

The same can be said for your skin care essentials like your face wash and moisturizers. Not being able to wash your face properly at night can cause your skin to breakout and look less vibrant than usual – nobody wants that.

Electronics

Unless the goal of your weekend is to completely unplug, you’ll probably want to pack some essential electronics. Obviously, make sure you pack your cell phone! Don’t forget your phone charger so you can keep it powered up. You might also want to pack earbuds, a tablet, and your smart watch.

Entertainment For The Room Or Airplane

If you’ll be flying to your destination, don’t forget to pack something to keep yourself busy during your travels. Pack your carry-on with a book, a puzzle book, and an adult coloring book so you’ll always have something to reach for.

You should also ask a few small, fun items or games to keep you and the girls entertained in the room. Consider tossing a pack of cards in your bag, a Mad Libs book, or a fun game like Taboo.

Once you have packed all the essentials, you are setting yourself up for a perfect weekend getaway. You’ll be able to relax and let loose without worrying that you forgot a key item. Get packing and enjoy your weekend getaway with the girls!
