If you scroll through my Instagram feed, you’ll notice that I’m a glasses girl. What you might not know is why. It’s not just because my doctor recommended I steer clear of contact lenses (more on that later) or because I have allergies that dry out my eyes; I genuinely like wearing them.
I remember back in high school debating whether to give a presentation with or without my glasses. It sounds strange, but glasses have always been a kind of shield for me, protecting me from harm, whether real or perceived. Of course, I know they’re not really armor but there’s a comfort I get from looking at life through the familiarity of my lenses.
That said, this shield doesn’t keep me from going outside my comfort zone. If anything, it gives me the confidence that I can. I’ve partnered with Zenni because their styles are so fun and perfect for the on-the-go lifestyle so many of us travelers lead.

What I really appreciate about Zenni’s pricing structure is that it’s accessible to all budgets. As a freelancer, there have been several periods of time when I didn’t have health insurance, let alone vision coverage. Splurging on a single pair of glasses sometimes felt like a stretch.

When it was time to buy my frames, I was at first overwhelmed by the amount of possible add-ons. To be fair, most of these options are more relevant for sunglasses so I skipped over the majority of options. I did, however, take full advantage of their inscription feature.
For my colorful, Cat-Eye Glasses, I chose “you are magic” because when I first saw it on the website, I immediately imagined myself writing a novel or working on something creative. I mostly stick to neutral colors when it comes to fashion, so this was a fun way to mix things up and add a pop of color into my normal, everyday look.
On one side the Browline Glasses I ordered, I included my name and on the inside and a quote: “I am home in me.” One of my good friends was the first to share this mantra with me and it really stuck, especially having moved more than a dozen times in the last decade along…plus, all the traveling that I do. Ok, time to get personal. As some of you know, I recently lost my father to a 2.5 year battle with brain cancer. As such, I’ve found myself crying more than the average person. Back in November, I even got hit with two back to back eye infections from my contact lenses, partly because my eyes were abnormally dry from all my tears.
When my ophthalmologist encouraged me to stay away from contact lenses for the foreseeable future, I became a glasses girl once again.
