Budget Bodrum for the Luxe Boho

Bohemian Travelers heading to Turkey this summer should try to squeeze a weekend getaway to Bodrum into their itinerary, as the coastal city seems to fit every travel style. Regular flights to Bodrum run year-round and even if you are on a budget, the city is designed to make you feel ultra chic.

Feel Like a Princess

Perhaps I’ve watched too many Disney movies but I simply cannot get enough of European castles. While Bodrum Castle is popular site among tourists, the castle itself is definitely worth a visit as far as I can tell. Overlooking the harbor, The Castle of St. Petrus, (or Petronium) was constructed by the Knights of Rhodes back in the 15th century, dating back to the Crusades in the Middle Ages. The Museum of Underwater Archaeology is located inside the castle and depending on what time of the year you visit, you may stumble upon a cultural festival or music performance.

Cruise the Day Away

If you are looking for a relaxing way to see Bodrum, taking a short boat cruise is one way to feel chic without investing too much time or money. For a more intimate and laid-back setting, opt for a dinner cruise after the sun sets. Don’t be intimated by cruising couples. In fact, a lot of people go with a group of friends and end up mingling with other travelers on board. If nothing else, it’s an excuse to dress up, feel fancy for a few hours and take photos of the city by night. Sea sick? Skip the boats and head straight for the Turkish Baths.

Window Shop ’til you Drop

Bodrum may not compare to European capitals like Paris, Milan or London, but it has a great deal of designer boutiques. I personally can’t afford these high-end stores but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy window shopping. If you are in the mood to do some serious shopping I suggest skipping the pricey stores and instead haggling at the local market. Turkish markets tend to sell everything imaginable. To avoid the crowds, get there either early in the morning or just before closing. Vendors are more likely to offer discounts during these times.
