Day Tripping to Grenoble

One of the many perks about traveling in Europe is the accessibility of trains. After a few blissful days in Paris, my boyfriend and I decided to take a short and sweet detour to Grenoble. The southeastern French city is as picturesque as a postcard. Reminding me of South American landscape, seeing the mountains peeking over the city buildings was certainly a scenic backdrop.

Compared to Paris and other bustling cities, Grenoble is relatively low-key, which is part of its fascinating charm. After a quick walk through the city center, we ordered a few beers at a café, sat back and enjoyed our new surroundings. Later in the evening we revisited this spot and found groups of locals watching a film on the lawn. For a seemingly quiet city, Grenoble residents have a lively social life and welcoming community.

Simply walking through Grenoble filled me with much wanderlust. It wasn’t a destination I’d always dreamed of visiting but that’s part of the beauty of travel. You can never underestimate or rule a place out, as it might just become one of your favorite cities on earth. Before I knew it we were on our return train back to Paris and I was saying a smiling farewell to Grenoble’s green grass and mammoth mountains.

  1. Grenoble looks so lovely — the kind of charming French city I’ve always wanted to visit. I remember it as being a location for the Winter Olympics (many, many years ago).

  2. Love the mammoth mountains :) I’ve only whizzed through Grenoble airport on the way to the ski fields. My aunt used to live there so it’s nice to see what a charming town it is.

Looks and sounds lovely! I have only enjoyed a few fleeting days in Paris and a trip to Boulogne-Sur-Mer when a friend was studying there – there is plenty more of France for me to explore and Grenoble looks beautiful :-)

You seem to have liked the “dent de Crolles” :) Don’t hesitate visiting me in Lyon and we’ll walk up there if you want :)
