Awesome Norwegian Art Oddities

There are so many reasons why I love Norway and hopefully this photo essay will shed some light on the funnier side of this nordic country. These awesome Norwegian art oddities were spotted throughout my recent trip along the Western Coast.

A Church Train – this bizarre structure is just outside the train station in Åndalsnes, where many tourists hop on and off the Rauma Railway. Although the train is no longer in operation, you can still pop inside to see the religious decor.

The Most Awesome Shoe in Norway – I spotted this blue shoe in the tiny village of Undredal. I’m sure most people would have kept on walking up the hill, but I found this larger than life shoe too charming to ignore.

Moods of Norway in Lights – I love the concept behind Moods of Norway‘s hugely successful brand despite not being able to afford their clothes myself. Their urban themed light installation immediately caught my attention.

An Avant-Garde Telephone Box –  Ålesund is known for their art nouveau architecture but nothing quite prepared me for this fantastic phone booth. I think this standalone piece really ads a layer of personality to “Norway’s most beautiful city”.

A Bit of Tahiti in Norway – I found this sighting in Kristiansund only hours after landing in Norway. The Tahitifestivalen is popular annual music festival taking place here.

A Rocky View – Similar sightings are common throughout the world, but these rocks certainly have an unbeatable view overlooking  Trollstigen.

The First Pin-Up Girl – A few minutes in Bergen’s Hanseatic Museum and I discovered what may be the very first pin-up girl. I’m not serious of course, but it was amusing to imagine the men staring into this woman’s eyes each night.

A Bit of Home – it took Bergen to remind me of my home in New York. At first glance, I thought of all the homeless people living in NYC and making my subway rides very out of the ordinary.
